We know this past year has been difficult and we know that fun and learning has really taken a hit. ComputerXplorers Catch-up Camp remedies some of that lost learning and fun. Our catch-up camp focusses on core-subjects (English, science, maths) using Minecraft Education, with added STEM (coding, robotics) and provides a fun and familiar environment for engaged learning. Monday – Maths with Minecraft Education From understanding the relation between fractions and decimals to symmetrical building challenges, and understanding area and volume, this workshop is a great opportunity to recap on some important mathematical concepts and building blocks. Tuesday – English with Minecraft Education With a focus on parts of speech within the English language, children will collaborate to create a Kingdom of Words! Each model will be designed to reflect the parts of speech they represent and filled with words contributed by each child. This workshop offers a fun engaging environment to problem solve creatively and familiarise children with parts of speech (nouns, adjectives, verbs, punctuation, prepositions) in the English language. Wednesday – Science with Minecraft Education Diving into Microsoft’s Sustainable City, children will learn about the importance of recycling and will explore sustainable food production. This workshop offers a fun and engaging environment where children can learn all about sustainable farming, crop rotation and water pollution along with material science and recycling processes. Thursday – Robotics Edison Bot takes centre stage for our Robotics workshop. Children will use Scratch to write programmes for Edison Bot. Starting out with some basic barcode programming and moving on to creating their own programmes, this workshop provides a gradual progression in understanding coding robots. Friday – Coding with Python Get a great head start in learning how to code using one of the key programming languages used by professional developers – Python. Children will be introduced to the program Python to learn programming and coding. They will explore a variety of coding methods and functions, including looping and graphics.
